‘Sherlock’ Special Title, Air Date & Images Revealed
Check it out here below. Just as the USA and United Kingdom can watch the premiere episode on television the same day, they’ll also have the chance to go to theaters and buy tickets at the same time. The show stars Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game) as Holmes and Martin Freeman(The Hobbit) as Watson. You think Moffat and this cast could find the time to crank out a few parallel Sherlock specials, set in both the modern times and Victorian England? It will also feature Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan and Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade. One show that has particularly attracted ire for doing so is the British program “Downton Abbey” – multiple months can elapse between British and American season premieres, as with the show’s current season, which premiered in Britain in September but won’t air in the U.S. until January.
The special will be taking place in London in its Victorian Era. Catch Sherlock: The Abominable Bride on Friday, January 1 at 9 p.m. ET, only on PBS.
It’s been less than two years since the last season of Sherlock, but as usual, it feels like decades have passed.
Titled “The Abominable Bride”, PBS announced on their Twitter account the release of the “Sherlock” one-off.
The gifts in question are red ribbons, presumably a reference to the original Sherlock novels of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which the stalker tied to both Cumberbatch’s auto and one of the windows of his house. With him is Martin Freeman who will also reprise his role as Holmes’ best friend and partner in investigating unsolvable mysteries Dr. John Watson.
Season four of the popular series created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss will film next spring. Whilst it is fairly obvious that the special will be set in Victorian times, writer and producer Steven Moffat had previously stated that the plot will not be bogged down by the characters explaining why they were there.
