Battle.net Voice Chat to debut with Overwatch beta
In a blog entry posted on October 23, the game developer and publisher based in Irvine, California, revealed that it is getting its hands dirty to enhance Battle.net with a VoIP element as part of its preparation for the beta test version of the Overwatch.
Blizzard said that “This update will lay the foundation for us to test voice chat functionality within the Overwatch beta”.
“With voice chat still in its early development and testing stages, it’s too early to say which Blizzard games will be supported and when”, the answer reads.
Q: Will voice chat support other Blizzard games as well?
The company is hoping that, for their upcoming “Overwatch” game, players will do away with Skype, Ventrillo, or other third party apps used for communication. Moreover, the firm plans to open its floodgates during “Beta Test Weekends”, which will enable those who are not member of the core team to get the look and feel of the game.
The Overwatch Beta begins next week on October 27. While the beta will no doubt introduce a bunch of gamers to the game, it will also introduce a new feature. Its arrival to games like Heroes of the Storm or Diablo 3 seem welcome, while adding voice chat to a game like Hearthstone could cause more drama than players could reasonably want. Players often opt to use external voice chat programs as a result. Match-based squabbles with team-based objectives play as backdrop to a number of unique characters with special powers. More details are expected down the road. “The goal is not to get as many people in as possible”. Overwatch is not included yet considering it is yet to be released; however, there are plenty of items for World of Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft fans to enjoy.
