Domi, Doan lead Coyotes past Leafs 4-3
Overall, though, Arizona will need to see the best Smith possible to win on Monday night; anything less than his best, and the two goalies are more evenly matched than the raw numbers suggest. “It was a good run but not quite (Dolphins) worthy”. I can’t wait until the next season starts.
Tie Domi scored 84 goals as a member of the Maple Leafs, 27 of them at the Air Canada Centre.
Price’s talents were on display on Saturday against Clark’s former club. He stopped 49 of 52 Leaf shots en route to a 5-3 Habs victory, their ninth consecutive win of 2015-16. “I think that was real important for us as a group to show that we can win on the road and we can win tight games, so that feels really good and I think we can bring that on to Toronto”.
When and if the Habs do lose, they’ll hope history doesn’t repeat itself from 22 years earlier.
Max Domi looks to continue his impressive rookie season in a place where his father played the majority of his 1,020 National Hockey League games as the Arizona Coyotes visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.
The young forward impressed the Coyotes at training camp in 2014, but GM Don Maloney opted to send Domi back to the OHL London Knights as a 19-year-old.
“It was nice, especially to get the boys going”, Domi said. “Every game he’s played, he’s had an impact”.
Domi’s fourth goal of the season at 6:31 of the first period, gives the Coyotes’ forward 10 points helping him leapfrog Edmonton’s Connor McDavid for the rookie scoring lead.
“Hey Max. You go out first”.
Before the start of the game Domi’s Coyotes teammates made a decision to play a little rookie prank on him and allowed him to take ice all by himself for pre-game warmups. “But I’m just trying to control that and not let my emotions get the best of me”, he said. “I expected something like that at the beginning of the season but not really tonight”. Chipchura now has two goals and two assists after eight games.
On his first shot of his first game at the ACC, Domi wired a high, hard shot past Leafs netminder James Reimer, giving Arizona an early 1-0 lead as part of what became a hard-fought 4-3 Coyotes win. Dahlbeck’s goal was also his second of the season. Discipline was an issue for a Toronto team that took three penalties in the first period. The 27-year-old has just one assist in seven games this season, but is third on the Leafs behind Nazem Kadri and James van Riemsdyk in average time-on-ice per game and second behind Bozak with a 55.5% faceoff winning percentage. The disallowed goal, by the way, was the correct call as the puck was directed in with a high stick by Martin Hanzal…
There is possibly no other player more ready for the moment of playing in Toronto than Max Domi. The goal scored by Matthias, who was born in Mississauga, was his first as a Maple Leaf.
