‘Gotham’ Season 2 Spoilers: The GCPD Tries To Extinguish The Firefly In
Next Episode: “By Fire” airs October 26th – After Bridgit Pike rejoins her brothers, a new spark of courage ignites within her, as she chooses to take control of her future.
Back at the Pike’s, Bridgit puts on her Firefly gear and approaches the brothers. It doesn’t come from testosterone-based aggression; I think she feels cheated, because she’s had the strength all along and hasn’t had the chance to really express that. Her present for returning home is an order to make them dinner, but Bridgit has plans to cook something else entirely.
Alas, Jim and the GCPD were unable to keep the rebellious thief from coming to a fiery end… or so they thought. Because what’s more ripe for a villain’s origin story than a “toxic waste dump on top of an Indian burial ground?” Located underneath this prime piece of real estate, the mysterious lab was apparently a division of Wayne Enterprises, where all manner of grisly looking experiments were taking place. In her interview with the publication, Camren Bicondova, who is playing Kyle, she said that the episode would see Kyle wish that she should have believed her instincts following a revelation from Gordon. Barnes, disappointed that Jim has gone soft, vows to find Bridgit and bring her down.
Selina tries to help her friend escape Gotham City by pulling a crime of their own to give her the money to get out of town. After two awkward scenes – Barnes tells Gordon that he needs to put the cop killer down and Cat shows her affection for Bridgit with a hug – the pyro raids the sex trafficking warehouse and proceeds to burn the leader alive.
They grew up together, so that’s one thing that’s very important to Selina – having someone with her – especially after Alfred told her to stay away from Bruce. Could this be the source of more villains in Gotham?
Selina finds Bridget and Bridget has an vast amount of confidence. Bridgit now has the desire to go after everyone who has wronged her. Selina makes an attempt at talking her out of it, afraid that she’ll be killed in the process. That’s the complex part of what she’s saying, but it’s a cover-up, definitely, because her mom hurt her; her mom left her. She’s been growing up on her own – a teenage girl with no mom, that’s not a positive subject. Firefly makes her entrance and unleashes her flamethrower, barely burning one of the men. She only has to trust herself and her way usually gets her out of trouble. So she’s bitter about that, and she’s bitter about the fact that she can’t see him.
She is shown wreaking havoc on the people of Gotham but her intentions behind such actions is still unknown. “Where do I fit in?”
Does that lack of companionship nudge her closer to the dark side? Also, as cool as she looks in the Firefly costume, I don’t think the sight of a flame thrower would stop an entire room full of criminals from shooting at her. She doesn’t have unlimited range. That’s where she’ll be struggling… Plus, the writers of Gotham have already teased that fans should be seeing Jerome again this season. Bridgit is reinvigorated after turning her brothers into toaster strudel, and Selina notes the change in her old friend’s demeanor. They tell Gordon they’ll have to report him, and he could not care less. So he can’t necessarily do the things he used to be able to do, and in turn, he can’t help Selina the same way he used to. Bridgit is toasting pervs like marshmallows, and she lets all the women go. The actress also said that she was also thrilled to see what the future episode would bring to the screen. I think they’re both surprised to see where the other has ended up.
On a rooftop, Selina finds Bridgit making adjustments to her flamethrower. Even though Jim tries to explain what happened, she will not hear it and basically calls the cop out on his crap: she may have let it slip that Penguin was behind it all, yet this incident forms her hatred for cops. For a few, Gotham is a goofy show that embraces the cartoonish elements of the Batman canon, and the comic book medium in general, and thus shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Jim wants to know who hired the Pike brothers for the original arson activities. It was a totally new level for her: no more blowing up safes and buildings, she took a life. Either way, she decides to light up a cop vehicle: as a result, someone fires his or her gun, causing a leak in her tank and her suit to catch on fire. We’re only beginning to get a sense of the larger picture that both Bruce and Galavan were hinting at when they mentioned the bad things happening at Wayne Enterprises.
