FA charge Jose Mourinho with misconduct following West Ham farce
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s miserable start to the season has worsened after he was charged with misconduct by the Football Association for his sending off in Saturday’s defeat at West Ham.
The Portuguese coach was fined £50,000 (US$77,000) and given a suspended one-match stadium ban for comments about referee Robert Madley following a 3-1 loss at home to Southampton. The deadline set for all parties to respond is Thursday 6pm local time.
But in 2013, the then Blackpool manager Paul Ince was given a five-match stadium ban for “violently shoving” a fourth official in an expletive-laden rant, after a match.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is tarnishing the Premier League, according to former referees’ boss Keith Hackett.
“Moss was appointed to what appears to be a poisoned chalice when it comes to officiating Chelsea – not the easiest team to control”, Hackett told You Are The Ref. “For a number of years with Jose Mourinho in charge, Chelsea have been a hard team to referee”.
He has publicly highlighted Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger avoiding sanctions for pushing him in the technical area in October 2014 and for calling referee Mike Dean “weak and naive” following the Gunners’ loss at Stamford Bridge last month.
Chelsea’s frustrations continued later on as Ramires’ header was cleared off the line by Manuel Lanzini, with goal-line technology determining the entire ball did not cross the line. Three minutes later Cesc Fabregas was also denied after being ruled offside. With Stoke lying a spot above Chelsea on the points table, Hughes is hoping that his side can take advantage of the London club’s dip because he expects them to recapture their best form soon. Nemanja Matic was also given a red card.
Second-half substitute Andy Carroll tallied the victor for West Ham to sink 10-man Chelsea 2-1.
The Premier League are also expected to write to Chelsea about a possible breach of the regulation that clubs must fulfil media obligations after a game.
But the likely fine is the least of his worries.
