Bexleyheath Sainsbury’s supporting poppy appeal
Celebration teamed was teamed commemoration this weekend as volunteers gathered in Wembley to launch this year’s Royal British Legion poppy appeal.
“We have poppies on lamp posts as you can see all around Woking, we started it a year ago in Surrey, we put out 18,000”.
There will also be poppy-inspired products on sale in-store, with all profits going to The Royal British Legion, the largest charity to support Britain’s military.
And for the first time, online customers will get the opportunity to make a donation to The Royal British Legion and receive a stick-on paper Poppy when they make an order between 23 October and 11 November 2015.
The money raised from the poppy appeal goes towards the Legion’s work with current serving personnel, veterans and their families, including innovative dementia care, theatre recovery projects, world-leading research on blast injury studies, and Legion-owned seaside break centres.
“Already this year 26,000 have been put out for the Poppy Appeal, that’s a record and it’s set a president for the rest of the country”.
“Contributions are made by adults, teenagers and children and their parents and teachers, a few of whom have lived here for many year or who are veterans themselves-along with businesses and tradespeople who pass through from neighbouring areas. Volunteer and members are more than welcome!”
