MD Man Who Injured 7 at DSU Homecoming, Charged with DUI The 28-year-old Mitchelville, Maryland man who police say injured seven people at Delaware State University’s homecoming weekend, has been charged with DUI.
While trying to park near the picnic area at Delaware State University around 7:30 p.m., Gregory Ligon, 28, of Mitchelville, Md., exited a Mercedes Benz sedan when the auto was still in reverse, police said. Police say the auto came to a stop when it struck a tree. The auto struck seven people, including a 21-year-old woman who was badly injured when its open door pinned her to a tree, police said. She suffered a broken back, broken ribs and several internal injuries.
An unnamed 20-year-old woman from Little Egg Harbor was hospitalized for a foot injury according to police.
Ligon was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, police said, and faces multiple charges including first and second degree vehicular assault.
The other six people hit by Ligon were treated at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover, he said.
The 21-year-old woman who was the most seriously injured in the crash, who is from Wilmington, remained in critical condition at Christiana Hospital on Sunday, police said.

That caused the vehicle – with the driver’s side door still open and Ligon in it – to accelerate, jump a curb and cross a grassy area full of people, he said.
