Clinton Campaign Builds Momentum In New York With or Without de Blasio
Curiously, the report comes only hours after the Clinton camp announced its top 100 supporters from New York, deemed her “leadership council”.
A Clinton spokesperson confirmed the campaign was discussing “earning” de Blasio’s endorsement but the timing of such an endorsement remained unclear.
The Hillary Clinton Campaign train for president is picking up steam in Brooklyn, and the pressure is growing for the borough’s first resident, Mayor Bill de Blasio, to jump on board. “She [was] working on a progressive vision of health care when Bill de Blasio was still smoking pot at NYU or wherever he went”. The mayor said repeatedly that he wanted to hear more from Clinton on certain issues – namely income inequality – before he would offer his endorsement.
That position has rubbed a few members of Clinton’s leadership team the wrong way, including Sarah Kovner, a member of the Democratic National Committee and a long-time party activist.
Mayor de Blasio has deep roots to the Clinton world, having worked for Bill Clinton at the federal department of housing and urban development under current Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
In April, de Blasio claimed to want to know more about her vision for the White House before moving to endorse her. But the refusal triggered a famously furious headline in the New York Post, blaring “Traitor”.
A spokesman for Clinton says the candidate’s and mayor’s staffs have held discussions about the endorsement. He and a group of progressive leaders are planning a bipartisan presidential forum at the University of Iowa on December. 6th. Mayor de Blasio was left off of Monday’s list. “Hillary’s record as a tireless fighter for middle class families, civil rights, and putting people over special interests make it clear that she will be a president who moves New York and our country forward”. “New York is very important city in our nation, arguably the most important city”, said election lawyer Jerry Goldfedder, who’s also on the leadership council but doesn’t speak for the campaign.
