Beware of risky Costume Contact Lenses

Many people want to take their halloween costume to the next level by using colored or theatrical contact lenses, but the opthalmologists are warning that they could lead to blindness. At that time, cosmetic contact lenses will face the same licensing, manufacturing, labelling, and instruction requirements to improve their safety before they go on sale, as other medical devices do.

“Any individual who experiences eye redness, prolonged eye pain or any decrease in vision after wearing decorative contact lenses should immediately notify a doctor”, HSI said in a news release. The brands in question, Wonder Look, Red Rose, Black & White, Beauty World, and insane Eagle, are largely marketed as Halloween and beauty accessories, and sold over the counter.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Bettinelli says the lenses were being sold openly at 10 stores in Southern California.
