Brandon Marshall: I should be walking back to New York
Brady overcame the Revis Effect by looking to Amendola, who finished with eight catches for 86 yards, with five of those catches coming in the fourth quarter. When it came to facing the New England Patriots on Sunday, they were not playing their best.
“Typical hard-fought game against New York, and it’s always good to come out on top”, Belichick said.
“We were fine schematically”, Bowles said.
“We’re on to the next game here and trying to figure out the best way to attack Oakland”, Fitzpatrick said.
Here’s our weekly look at the key plays in the Patriots’ game after reviewing the film. No one has figured out how to stop the Patriots yet and they might not be close.
The Jets also had no answer for Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, who had 11 catches for 108 yards and a touchdown. Of all the teams on the Patriots’ schedule, two stand out that can slow them down: the Broncos and the Jets. I think for all of us, it’s getting back into the football mode, and dealing with the game speed and so forth. “Some of the good things – not turning the ball over – that was certainly a positive”. Ryan Fitzpatrick pushed an offense in a way the critics said he couldn’t, keep the Jets very much in the game. We just didn’t score enough touchdowns. “I think that was the important thing”.
“That was a play where they manned up”, Amendola said.
On fourth down from the 1, Brady jumped over the line on a keeper to make it 10-10.
“I am (angry), because I feel like we had them”, Jets guard Willie Colon said. The have a lot of good players and they have a good scheme. The Patriots host the Miami Dolphins next week.
-PASSING OFENSE: B minus.
The Jets were down three points at the time, before giving up the Rob Gronkowski touchdown that put them behind two scores.
In East Rutherford, New Jersey, Dwayne Harris raced a 100 yards with a kickoff return against his former Dallas teammates seconds after the Cowboys had leveled the game as New York Giants moved atop the National Football East with a 27-20 victory over Dallas. Brandon LaFell saw the field for the first time on Sunday, and was responsible for six of those drops.
It is the third time in team history and first time since 2007 the Patriots have started 6-0. They stayed right with their undefeated archrivals for almost the whole contest, even though their two biggest offensive weapons – Marshall and a banged-up Chris Ivory – were mostly ineffective.
But Bowles chose not to spend a timeout before that, when a rare run by James White gave the Pats a first down at the 33. Brady was actually the team’s leading rusher for the first time in his career, notching 15 yards on his four attempts, including an 11-yard scramble and a 1-yard touchdown sneak. The veteran journeyman also completed 22 of his 39 passes for 295 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for a 97.7 passer rating, his first game of the year without an interception.
Up until the final stanza, the Jets defense had done a great job of containing Brady and the Patriots high-powered offense. We had a quick pass early and he batted it down.
The Super Bowl MVP completed 14 of 17 passes in the final quarter to overcome a 20-16 deficit and give New England (6-0) a two-game lead over the Jets in the AFC East. Ivory had a long run of just 7 yards. Backup Zach Stacy was not much better, totaling just 19 yards on his seven carries. When you go against the Patriots, a team like that, when you have the chance to put the knife in them you have to do so. After losing 1 yard in three plays – including Brady’s first sack of the game – Stephen Gostkowski kicked the first of his three field goals. After the hard fought contest, New England coach Bill Belichick wasn’t pleased.
Steve Serby of the New York Post calls him New York’s S.O.B. On Monday, the head coach stood by his decision to not use any of his three timeouts late in the game when the Patriots had the ball.
