Ex-Miami coach Butch Davis wants to be considered for coaching vacancy
He also coached at Miami from 1995 through 2000, going 51-20 with the Hurricanes before leaving the program to coach the NFL’s Cleveland Browns.
“I’m fully in the Butch Davis camp, however, I know it’s not gonna happen”, the Sun Sentinel’s Omar Kelly said on the Joe Rose Show.
A day after Miami fired Al Golden, one former Hurricanes coach wasted no time in expressing his desire to return to Coral Gables and try – again – to restore Miami to national prominence. “I’ve told people many, many times that everything that I ever accomplished as a coach has its roots in Miami”. Cristobal has head coaching experience having spent six seasons transforming FIU from by far the worst program in Division I into one that went to two bowl games. With Scott holding only the interim head coach title, who will be the man to replace Golden fulltime next season?
Perhaps Miami would rather turn the page than look into its history for its next head coach, but as for consideration, Davis is certainly worthy of that much.
Whether the Hurricanes are interested in Davis or not, they’ll have no shortage of candidates. “Hopefully my name will be one that will have an opportunity to be considered”.
According to Bovada, Davis is +175 to take the Miami coaching job.
Davis, 63, was an assistant coach with the Hurricanes and a defensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys before becoming the head coach at Miami in 1995.
Still, there’s no denying Davis, now a television analyst, wants to return to the sideline. “I’ve got all the energy”, Davis said, per the Post. “That’s a big part of it”.
