Petty’s Garage-Tuned 2016 Ford Mustang GT Makes up to 727 HP
Under its hood, the 5.0 liter V8 engine has received the cold air intake, the optimized ECU, a supercharger and a MagnaFlow exhaust system which are allowing it to produce 670 HP (499 kW).
The latest Ford-Petty’s Garage team-up has the two companies coming up with a limited-edition twist on the Ford Mustang GT, following up on last year’s 627-horsepower supercharged model that was unveiled at SEMA 2014.
Ford The modified Mustang GT will come in three editions with small production numbers – 243 King models, 43 King Premier and 14 King Premier convertibles. The 2016 Mustang spent a few time at Petty’s Garage, and each was built up “to the specifications of The King himself”. The 43 King Premier editions get everything above but swap out the wheels for different HRE/Petty’s Garage units and sub in six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes with two-piece rotors.
“They are just great fun to drive and have a signature single exhaust”. “We’re looking forward to having an even bigger footprint in more locations this year”, said Jeff Whaley, chief operating officer, Petty’s Garage.
Ford’s Mustang fell behind in the horsepower race against rivals Dodge Challenger and Charger, but now it’s pulling out its secret weapon in the battle for muscle-car supremacy: Richard Petty. Extreme-duty TrakPak Ford Performance half-shafts, three-way adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars, and an upgraded rear axle enhance the dirty bits, and Petty’s Garage/HRE 20-inch wheels (nine inches wide in front, 10 inches in back) with Continental Extreme Performance summer tires complete the rolling stock. The King signs every model on a special dash plate. Petty Blue will be the stripes of the vehicles. The supercharger upgrade package will bring the total output to 727 HP (542 kW). A base King starts at $67,495 and the Premiere is $90,495 for starters.
