National Football League will admit officiating mistake on Ravens’ opening drive
Unfortunately for Crockett Gillmore and the Ravens, the result was the same, too.
That should remain the same after a dogfight of a game on Monday Night Football between the two teams, as the only turnover of the game sealed the victory for the Cardinals in the waning seconds.
But oh, what could have been.
A blocked punt by Baltimore late in the fourth quarter, followed by a Joe Flacco touchdown pass to Kyle Juszczyk, had the Ravens within a single possession.
Following their Monday Night Football loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens coaches said that they were having communication issues throughout the game, with audio completely dropping out on the team’s final drive. “It’s going to be a fight to the end”, Flacco said. The Ravens have been outscored by their opponents by 27 points over the course of the entire season, which is by no means good, but closer to a team that should be creeping toward.500.
“That’s the worst part, sometimes you get on Twitter and they bash you”, Jefferson said (with Patrick Peterson chiming in with a “Yeah they do.”) “But now, they can’t really bash me”.
Outside of one drive long drive the Cardinals’ defense seemed to know exactly what the Ravens were doing. The Ravens had an early catch by guard John Urschel negated by an illegal-formation penalty because the officials ruled that Urschel did not properly report as an eligible receiver before the play. With the incompletion, it allowed the Ravens to have a real chance to tie the game, and they were yards again from making that happen (again, thank you Jefferson).
Now I’m just going to quote the baltimoreravens.com staff writer on this final miscarriage of justice: “Another borderline call led to a Cardinals touchdown”. I think once the season continues to mature, I think you’ll see guys like (Mike) Iupati and (Jonathan) Coop(er) and all those guys get on the same page where the communication is excellent and they’re just going to get better and better as a group.
Urschel lined up as a left tackle on a 1st-and-10 from the Cardinals’ 14-yard line and leaked into the flat after starting the play in pass protection. Joe looked at it. He saw it. I saw it. Then there was an announcement, which you couldn’t hear what the announcement was.
It looked like any chances of a Baltimore fightback were dashed when Palmer finished an 11-play drive by firing a four-yard touchdown pass to John Brown with just over eight minutes, but Catanzaro’s failure to add the extra point kept the door open. If you hit him in that situation, then you’re gonna get fined and penalized.
“The forward progress was stopped”, Harbaugh said. Johnson took it from there, running to his right before changing gears and running left and breaking free for a 26-yard touchdown scamper. For three seconds it was stopped.
“This is just where we are”. Two stars. That’s what I would review this one on my Yelp. His net average was 48, which was five yards more than his average in the team’s loss to the Steelers. It’s always good for me to brush up on every team we play, particularly before we play them to kind of have an idea of what we’re facing. Guys were confused and rightfully so.
