John Harbaugh says Ravens coaches’ headsets failed vs. Cardinals
That, and the work of head athletic trainer Tom Reed and his staff, is what Brown credited for his being able to play against the Ravens. But Steve Smith, the Ravens’ outspoken wide receiver is actually taking an optimistic approach to the tough season, which he has said is the final one of his impressive 14-year career.
Still, Flacco had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but he was intercepted by Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson in the end zone.
It was just the last of a flurry of mistakes. Before we would see a team that would have such a big lead, only to find ways to give it up in an instant. The running game got nothing going on the night, rushing for a combined 55 yards, with Justin Forsett having only 36 yards on 12 carries. The defense forced a three-and-out. They’ve been in every game.
But then it happened.
Harbaugh was not the only member of the Ravens who was displeased with the referees following the loss to the Cardinals. The team led 17-10 at the time and would add a field goal on the drive.
The Cardinals shut the Ravens down on their first two possessions.
“To be there and to kind of be nervous”, Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer said, “and to have those jitterbugs on the sidelines as you’re waiting, it’s good to have that feeling and come out and win”. The Ravens are now a franchise-worst 1-6 heading into Sunday’s home game against the San Diego Chargers. The bye week then follows, and it can’t come soon enough.
Philip Rivers completed 38 of 58 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns against two interceptions. Catanzaro’s extra point missed as it hit of the upright, and with 8:08 left in the game it felt like it was firmly in the Cardinals’ hands.
A 26-10 lead seemed comfortable before Bryant burst up the middle to block Drew Butler’s punt to set up the final Ravens touchdown.
Harbaugh had a second reason to speak with the referees late in the second quarter.
That is, until a blocked punt the Ravens recovered on the Cardinals 1-yard line. “We’re clearly told that when the play is dead, they’re supposed to stop”. “So you have to run the play in, so yeah it was a little bit hectic because of the lack of technology so of course that’s going to have a few sort of impact and effect”. Flacco was 26 for 40 for 252 yards, with a touchdown and the interception. He looked fine, he caught four passes for 65 yards and a touchdown, and he looked fast as ever doing it. He fumbled the ball on the kick return.
To say things haven’t gone well for the Ravens thus far would be an understatement.
Baltimore opened the night by missing four tackles on Chris Johnson’s 26-yard touchdown run, a bad omen for a struggling defense.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (5) is sacked by Arizona Cardinals linebacker Dwight Freeney (54) during the second half of an NFL football game, Monday, October 26, 2015, in Glendale, Ariz. A lot of the phones were going out on that drive. On Monday night, insane became the absurd, and all that’s left for the Ravens is to pick up the pieces of their season. “They went out on that drive”.
