Coastal flood advisory remains in effect for South Carolina coast Tuesday night
The so-called “spring tides” combined with surf of 3 to 6 feet and sets of 5 feet today and up to 7 feet on Thursday could lead to minor coastal flooding, according to the weather service.
According to tide predictions from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Virginia Key station, three-foot high tides are expected to swell in the Miami area around 9 p.m. Monday night, then again at 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued coastal flood advisories from Los Angeles northwest to Santa Barbara and south to San Diego.
“Pretty boring so far”, said J.J. Poindexter, the assistant harbor master. Wednesday’s highs were expected to be a little lower. “But this is going to be a minor event for us”.
Lessons continued as usual for Banzai Surf School at Huntington Beach.
Also forecast is long-period northwest swell Wednesday through Friday, with a potential for high surf on west- to northwest-facing beaches, an NWS statement said.
Authorities have closed a number of streets in the Charleston area due to flooding earlier on Tuesday.
High tides have prompted a coastal flooding advisory affecting several beaches throughout Southern California. “We only stayed in for about 15 minutes, and we were done”, she said.
