Amit Mishra arrested for physical assault on woman; released on bail
MUMBAI India leg-spinner Amit Mishra was arrested by police and then released on bail in Bengaluru on Tuesday in connection with a complaint of assault filed by a woman. “Please take action against him for assaulting me”, Jain stated in her report to the police.
Mishra’s friend Raghvin, who introduced Vandana to him, stood surety for his station bail, which entails appearance at the police station or in the local court when summoned for further investigation and trial.
According to the FIR, the woman pointed out that Mishra assaulted her in his room on September 25 and hit her with his fists and threw a kettle at her face. Mishra also reportedly told the Ashok Nagar police that they had “not been meeting” frequently over the a year ago and that this had agitated her. “The BCCI is very strict about players and who is allowed inside their rooms; so, I was shocked to enter room 810 and find the room in a mess, with Vandana waiting for me”. At that time, Mishra also came there and (they) had a heated argument.
“I was aware that Amit was here, but I didn’t get in touch with him”.
“We were close friends for the past three years”. The complainant had said she went to Mishra’s room in his absence.
Sources said the two knew each other but Mishra was keeping distance recently.
Vandana alleged that her right ring finger was fractured in the scuffle. “He began using filthy words and called me a “b**ch”, and ‘roadside girl”.
The 32-year-old bowler is part of the Indian Test squad for first two matches against the visiting South Africans and Shukla feels the case will have no bearing on his being selected in the playing XI if the team management decides.
The first test between India and South Africa will be played in Mohali from November 5.
Mishra was booked under section 328 of IPC for causing hurt and Section 354 of IPC for assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
