Rare shootout win gets Flyers extra point vs. Rangers
With a towel-waving, sellout crowd watching at the Wells Fargo Center, the Flyers scored a 3-2 shootout victory over the New York Rangers.
Raffl collapsed on the Flyers’ bench Saturday after reportedly taking an elbow to the head. “I was fine 10 minutes after and I feel fine today”.
Luckily that “long time” was relieved during the intermission, when Raffl came into the locker room to tell everyone he was OK.
“It was just a shot on my chin, ” he said.
Hextall strongly suggested that Couturier, the team’s best defensive forward, won’t play Saturday.
Said Mason: “Obviously, when (Giroux) goes out there and we take the two-goal lead, in that situation, that’s a must-win for any goaltender on the other side”.
“The first guy I saw was Simmer [Wayne Simmonds] and he gave me a big hug, like all scared and stuff”, Raffl recalled “Like, ‘What’s wrong buddy?”
“The guys are coming with the wheelchair and I looked at it and said, ‘I’m not gonna sit in this wheelchair, ‘” Raffl said. “He’s actually cracking jokes”.
Neither team was able to find the scorecard in the third period, but the Rangers were extremely lucky to send this game to overtime after being outplayed. He stoned Pierre-Edouard Bellemare in the slot a few minutes later and held off Philadelphia during a power-play opportunity that followed. Defenseman Keith Yandle centered a backhanded pass to left winger Oscar Lindberg, who deflected the puck into the air and right to Miller who punctuated the play.NOTES: Flyers C Sean Couturier and G Michal Neuvirth were out of the lineup with upper-body injuries. “He was a pretty good housemate but a awful cook”. “Upper body. That means from the waist to the top of the head”. J.T. Miller picked up his first goal of the season, and he now has six points. But Derick Brassard threw a shot that went off Flyers forward Ryan White’s skate and in at 4:48 of the period to tie it at 2-all. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault used a challenge, but the league, after a video review, supported the call, explaining that Stoll made “incidental contact” with Mason before the puck crossed the goal line. The goal also came on the power play, which gave the Rangers their third PPG in as many games.
Philadelphia Flyers’ Mark Streit (32), of Switzerland, takes a shot and scores on New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, of Sweden, during the first period of an NHL hockey game, Saturday, October 24, 2015, in Philadelphia. “I did that at the beginning of the season but I was finding a way to pick up points so nobody noticed”, Voracek said.
“I thought it was an irresponsible hit”, said general manager Ron Hextall, adding he was surprised Rinaldo was not suspended.
