Texans release QB Ryan Mallett
Oh, and it turns out that Mallett was late twice the day he missed the team flight to Miami; he also showed up late to the team facility earlier in the day.
Houston is coming off a 44-26 loss to the Dolphins and at 2-5, are among the most disappointing teams of the season. Sources told ESPN on Monday that coach Bill O’Brien was upset over Saturday’s incident.
That opportunity won’t be immediate, as the Giants received a two-week roster exemption to get Pierre-Paul back into playing shape. It’s not the leadership role that I need to exhibit. “He should be able to go by Wednesday, so I think that he’ll be in the game this week”. “He’s 27 years old”. Mallett had this to say… “She’s a lawyer. Maybe I’ll bring her to the next press conference, and you can direct all contractual questions to her”. “Get downfield. For me, the expectation is to make every tackle”.
Look, it’s the CBS National Football League crew, including a very happy Bill Cowher! I went and got a battery alarm clock so it won’t happen again… when I woke up I was like: “You’ve got to be kidding me”‘. In preseason, he was late for practice two days after Brian Hoyer was named the team’s starter, and sent home for the day. The tardy Mallett had previously spent three seasons as the backup to Tom Brady with the Patriots and while he hasn’t produced on the big stage, there is no denying his strong arm (sound familiar?).
Ryan Mallett is done in Houston. ‘I’ve always – Ryan and I have always had a great relationship. After he missed the charter to Miami, he blamed the Saturday morning traffic.
Hoyer said he knows getting Yates ready to play will fall on his shoulders as much as the coaching staff’s. I don’t remember who it was. Hoyer may have started the Texans’ 2015 season opener, but he was taken out in the fourth quarter and Mallett took the field in his place. The Texans gave him a chance few would – a chance to compete to be the team’s starting quarterback. But Mallett didn’t perform well either and was benched in favor of Hoyer in the middle of a game against Indianapolis on October. 8. The Texans ended the first half 41-0.
The Texans will sign T.J. Yates now that Mallett is released, according to the Chronicle.
Given the result, it’s easy to see why Houston quarterback Ryan Mallett wasn’t that excited about the trip.
Beginning of the end?
As it turned out, the only thing keeping Mallett’s release from happening before the game on Sunday was General Manager Rick Smith’s talking O’Brien off the ledge.
