Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to endorse Clinton for President
A few fellow New Yorkers chastised de Blasio for waiting on an endorsement; Representative Sean Patrick Maloney said he should”have his head examined”, and Anthony Weiner said, “You don’t ask a family member to lay out her resume before you decide to support her…”
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who pointedly refused to endorse Hillary Clinton for president last spring – and skipped her campaign launch in June – is now ready to jump on the bandwagon.
Mayor Bill de Blasio’s call to change state laws to allow judges to consider the danger posed by a suspect in determining bail contradicts his progressive stance, criminal justice reform advocates say.
De Blasio worked as campaign manager for Hillary Clinton’s successful Senate bid in 2000 and served as a regional director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for New York and New Jersey under former President Clinton.
All of the presidential candidates were invited to his forum on December 6 – none have RSVP’d yet.
“If he hasn’t seen [her vision] by now, then I don’t know when he’ll see it”, said Kovner.
“While it’s absolutely appropriate to address the inappropriate mass incarceration that’s pervaded this nation for decades – we have to make that reform – and that revolves around drug offenses and other non-violent offenses first and foremost”, de Blasio said Wednesday. The New York Daily News’ headline on the story back in April read, “Stabbed in De Back”, while the New York Post went with “Hill’s Fury” and “Traitor!”
“Over the course of the campaign, the Hillary for New York Leadership Council will continue to expand”, the campaign said in their press release.
Gov. Cuomo threw a brushback pitch at Mayor de Blasio on Tuesday, saying it’s “way premature” to discuss whether he’ll endorse Hizzoner for re-election in 2017.
