CBS ‘Supergirl’ Premiere Spoilers: Boss Talks Going Against Batman Prequel
Hopes were lofty for “Supergirl”, the first network television series revolving around a female super hero since “Wonder Woman” lassoed in primetime audiences in the 1970s. “I saw it when I was working out this morning”, he continued. We’re also going to have the Red Tornado, who’s another DC Comics iconic character.
Normally, someone calling Melissa Benoist “hot” might be taken as a normal compliment, but when a much older Jeb Bush makes the Supergirl comment you might imagine the actress portraying Superman’s cousin may feel a bit awkward.
Therein lies “Supergirl”‘s (the show and the girl) biggest strength: its bright, cheery disposition. Non’s presence, as well as Astra, raised questions about the show’s connection to other Superman movies, particularly “Superman II” which starred Christopher Reeves in the title role. Did Melissa Benoist steal your heart?
While the pilot wasn’t flawless (nothing can be), I found myself enjoying the viewing a second time around. I would have moments where I felt confident and where I felt strong and courageous and like I could do anything. Later, Olsen revealed he knew her identity all along as he was sent to National City by Superman. Alex’s boss, Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), is also skeptical of Kara’s abilities. It’s a show that is providing action, romance, adventure, and a little bit of humor.
Overall, though, the pilot episode of “Supergirl” wasn’t too bad.
While on Earth, Kara knows that she has superpowers but doesn’t use them until one day when she needs to step up to the occasion and save innocent people. “Supergirl” was no doubt helped by the program that aired before it, CBS’s hit comedy “The Big Bang Theory”, which centers on scientists who love comic books, “Star Wars”, and other similar media. That will be interesting to see play out. Melissa Benoist, whose past credits include Marley Rose on “Glee“, and appearances on “Homeland”, “The Good Life” and “Law & Order”, gave what can only be described as a very heroic portrayal of Kara Danvers aka Supergirl. Fresh off last night’s series premiere, CBS has dropped an extended trailer for the full first season of Supergirl.
