University of Minnesota football coach Jerry Kill retires due to health issues
But the emotion a devastated Kill showed on Wednesday won’t soon be forgotten. He has been the team’s associate head coach and defensive coordinator.
Now, Kill said he’s following medical advice.
In a surprise move, University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill announced Wednesday morning that he is retiring. “I want to be the next head football coach”. I was told privately what happened. So that’s what we’re telling recruits. Upon inheriting a 2-10 team, he went 23-16 in three seasons, leaving after a 10-win season in 2010. Same principles we build on everything.
When a man like him is forced to step away from the game, we all lose.
“I’ve never stole from anybody and I’m not going to steal now”, Kill said.

Kill had a career record of 156-102 as a head coach, 29-29 at Minnesota.
Boyum and his son Travis manage their epilepsy with medication, but not a day goes by they don’t think about the “what ifs”.

Kill, 54, had a seizure on the sideline on September 14, 2013, at halftime against Western Illinois, but he returned to the sidelines the next week. But with 21 years coaching under Kill, Claeys is about as close as one can get to being just like his former boss. As the gap between the Power Five conferences and the rest of FBS widens, veteran coaches such as Calhoun seem more likely to make the jump. He’ll do the same this time around.

“When I walked off the practice field (Tuesday), I felt like a part of me died”, he said. Searches start with how much money you’re going to pay, who is a good fit and who is available. I’m not speaking about everybody, but in terms of Jerry Kill, I know it for a fact. “I see no reason why he can’t do that again in these circumstances”.
In July, Kill said he had been seizure-free for the previous 18 months.
Earlier this year, Kill and his wife partnered with the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota on a new “Chasing Dreams” fund geared toward helping children with epilepsy.

The two recent head coaches Harbaugh has observed – his father, Jim, at Michigan and his uncle John with the Baltimore Ravens – have found release via time with their families and exercise.
“None of them were big-time schools”, he said.
