The Flash Episode 2.04 Recap and Preview for Next Week

Jax is being created in order to prevent Dr. Stein (Victor Garber) from losing the battle against his flammable cells. There will be a third Flash this season: Wally West! And now we’re really going to pick up, with 5 and with 6 and 7, the Earth-2 storyline. She’s now the one keeping a major secret from the ones closest to her. But our visual effects team are the best and they really love challenges like this.

While the first version of Firestorm was a lot different than the comic book character, Andrew Kreisberg recently stated that the new rendition will be truer to what fans read in the comics. Why are we doing this?!’ while they’re merged, so there’s a lot more room for comedy with the Firestorm character than we’ve previously had before’. She told her mother that she understands her struggles with addiction, and she wishes her well, but that they haven’t been in one another’s lives for over twenty years, and Iris feels no inclination to start now. We didn’t see that at all in the last episode and for the majority of this episode. It was such a pleasant surprise to see King Shark in all of his glory and not a few monstrous CG mess (which given this episode could have easily happened). “Obviously we can’t afford to do an entire killer King Shark episode”. “We realized people could handle it and see it and not be like, ‘What the hell is going on?”‘Like the show just suddenly turned into a David Lynch thing”.

“What’s especially hard for Caitlin, and maybe ultimately cathartic about this experience, is that she’s connected to Stein and she cares deeply about him because he is her last connection to Ronnie”, she explained.

“The next episode opens in a slightly surprising way”, Kreisberg teased of the first face-to-face confrontation between Earth 2 Wells and Barry.

Kreisberg: We actually put him in the comic book adaptation because we said, “No one is ever going to let us do this and we’re never going to be able to do this” since we weren’t going to be using the Squad anymore. However, since the King Shark who confronted Barry was sent by Zoom, Kreisberg said, “That does mean there is King Shark in Earth-1”. “For me, it’s like they’re all friends, they all know each other’s secret identities, and they all care for each other – you’d think somebody would’ve said something about it”. We knew news of Wally was coming, as the arrival of Iris mom necessarily meant that other facts about the West family would come to light. Good or bad intentions, they all go nuts and they all get locked up. “That’s why we acknowledged Oliver’s change into Green Arrow on ‘The Flash, ‘” he said. Cisco’s really scared. He doesn’t see what the benefit is yet. Barry is called over by Cisco to talk about the donor. Patty Spivot is beginning to irk me, but I guess her role is much like the Barry/Iris dynamic previous year. We thought that was kind of the fun of these episodes.

Panabaker revealed that, because of the new show, this season’s crossover episodes would be “exponentially bigger”.

Aside from that, the team behind the show is proud to once more introduce a new hero for their viewers to look up to.
