Graphic surveillance videos, photos released in Waco biker shootout
A McLennan County deputy stands guard near a group of bikers in the parking lot of a Twin Peaks restaurant Sunday, May 17, 2015, in Waco, Texas.
Bikers can be seen scrambling around the restaurant, one of them covered in blood, as bullets start flying.
This is the first look into the bloody biker gang gunfight in a Texas restaurant that left nine people dead and almost 200 people arrested.
CNN’s Ed Lavandera, in the Dallas bureau, got his hands on the Waco Police Department’s files concerning the May shootout at the Twin Peaks that left nine biker-gang members dead.
Nine bikers were killed in the shooting and eighteen were injured, while 177 people were arrested.
Members of the Cossacks Club are sitting on this patio as they duck for cover. A few grab firearms and other weapons. He was on the Twin Peaks patio that day.
John Wilson is the president of the Waco, TX area chapter of the Cossacks motorcycle club. “When you are laying there and people are getting shot around you and bullets are whizzing by you”, Wilson said.
CNN has obtained more than 2,000 pages of documents, crime scene photos-many too graphic to show-and surveillance video giving us the most detailed accounts of what unfolded last May.
There is speculation among both prosecutors and defense lawyers that one of the attorneys who was either appointed or hired to defend one or more of the bikers arrested on that day released the evidence after it was obtained through the discovery process.
Sgt. Patrick Swanton with the Waco Police Department has confirmed that the video was not provided to CNN by Waco PD.
“It does appear that the video and the pictures are the same as evidence we gathered at the scene but it was not Waco police who released them”, Swanton said. A few say these videos prove the vast majority are innocent of the criminal charges. Susan Anderson is a defense attorney, “They just did a roundup and arrested everybody before they determined who was involved”.
These are just a few of the videos investigators are using to piece together what happened that day five months ago.
Until then this is the best and bloodiest look yet at the shootout and the aftermath and the hundreds of knives and guns found by police.
