GM Alex Anthopoulos rejects Toronto Blue Jays contract extension offer
Per Rosenthal, Anthopoulos was offered a long-term deal and his decision to leave is not related to money or the length of the contract.
The Blue Jays (93-69) won the AL East before falling to the Royals in the ALCS.
Anthopoulos left more questions than answers. Mr Hendriks, a WA scout for the Sydney Swans, said the only issue with his son’s pre-game ritual was finding someone who could kick the ball back to him.
The whole season comes down to just one series.
He declined to say why it was not a good fit.
It’s going to be an interesting offseason in the six.
“I know this is not an easy day for anybody…”
Anthopoulos told media that he had expressed to team officials that he didn’t want to negotiate a new contract until the season was over. Shapiro is replacing Paul Beeston, who is retiring. It also rings very similarly to Theo Epstein’s initial departure from the Boston Red Sox, when a power struggle between the young GM and Larry Lucchino resulted in Epstein departing Fenway Park in a gorilla suit in 2005.
I watched every game during both playoff runs and ran around the room when Otis Nixon grounded out in 1992, and Carter “touched ’em all” in 1993. Unfortunately for Toronto, Kansas City went on to convincingly win the game 14-2. “What happens after that, I’ve no idea”.
Following the conclusion of the 2015 season, Mark “the boss” Shapiro fired the savior of Canada and EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR Alex “the savior” Anthopolous, for trading away a few prospects. He wasn’t the flawless GM, but he eventually did what had to be done to earn that postseason trip, giving up prospects when the team had a clear shot in the present to do something besides flounder in the middle of the division.
Alex Anthopoulos came to the Toronto Blue Jays just around the time my baseball obsession was really starting to take hold.
This time should have been spent celebrating the Blue Jays’ first playoff berth in 22 years and their arrival as a contender instead of this.
Rather than try improving the club in increments, GM Alex Anthopoulos decided in the past year of his contract to go all in by acquiring David Price and Troy Tulowitzki at high costs to the organization.
Before signing Russell Martin to a five-year deal this off-season, Anthopoulos’ largest free-agent signing was a three-year pact with infielder Maicer Izturis, whose tenure in Toronto was marked by injury, anonymity and disappointment.
Prior to the 2011 season, Anthopoulos managed to dump roughly $81 of the $86 million owed Vernon Wells on the Los Angeles Angels, a move that set the stage for the competitive window he later established. Theo Epstein is going to be searching for another ace caliber pitcher and Price has had quite a history with manager Joe Maddon.
