Student Wears Blackface for Her Nicki Minaj Costume

A student a Florida high school is in hot water on social media after posting controversial pictures of herself dressed in blackface for a homecoming costume. “I would also like to say that everyone who knows my character and knows my heart, knows that I have never seen color in my life”.

Along those lines, public service campaigns in previous years have tried to discourage the practice of using cultural stereotypes and marginalized groups as costumes. “I’ll send this in today”, one angry Twitter user said.

And someone else added: ‘@emmajohns129 Don’t worry, I’m about to contact your superintendent’.

‘Oh I’m not playing. “Sorry. I am a survivor and find NOTHING cute about this”, Davin rips in her Tumblr post.

After the post went viral, the girl received responses such as, “I’m honestly amazed by people who wear blackface in 2015”. She was standing next to someone dressed as rapper Drake. She has now deleted her Twitter account but several people have already emailed her high school and alerted the University of Florida, where she’s applying for school next fall. ‘It takes an absurd amount of disrespect to do something so historically hateful’. I did not mean to offend anyone with my homecoming costume, ‘ she wrote.

Unfortunately, this is an issues that comes up far too frequently during the Halloween season.
