Sonos Play:5 Pre-Orders Start Today
Dealers can use the new Play:5 in stereo pairs, as a single stereo speaker unit, and they can install it horizontally or vertically within a room.
“Built with six synchronized, custom-designed drivers, the speaker’s three mid-woofers create smooth mids and deep, powerful lows, and three tweeters deliver crystal clear highs at any volume”, said Sonos in a press release.
Sonos has just announced that the brand new PLAY:5 wireless speaker is available today for pre-order over on the company’s website.
The $549 (CAD) speaker ($499 Dollars, $749 AUS, €579 and £429) comes at a $100 premium over the old PLAY:5 line. This flexibility, combined with Trueplay tuning, enables, “best-in-class sound for any placement, in any room”, the company states. I tried out a stereo pair in a vertical orientation and the resulting sound was truly impressive – however, spin both speakers onto a horizontal plane and you’ll benefit from the widest stage that will flood a large room.
The new SONOS PLAY:5 incorporates an innovative design that allows for the most effective wireless performance, without compromises, to ensure the music remains in ideal sync without dropouts.

It might not be a speaker that comes with a posthumous, unreleased track by the Wu-Tan Clan’s Ol’ Dirty Bastard, but the new flagship smart speaker from Sonos, the Play:5, is nothing to mess with-and now, the highly anticipated hardware is available for preorder.
The upcoming speaker will be available in November. The system is able to seamlessly play music from a variety of sources, including streaming services like Spotify. The PLAY:5 can also work with other Sonos speaker models and can even be used as rear speakers for a surround sound system with the Sonos Sub ($699) and Playbar ($699).
