Nextbit Robin ‘cloud-first’ smartphone up for pre-orders in several countries
The Nextbit Robin smartphone is a cloud-based mobile solution, and after wrapping up a successful Kickstarter campaign, pre-orders have opened up to the masses.
The name Nextbit Robin has slowly gained popularity in the Android smartphone world.
It’s time to kiss goodbye to all those storage blues with the all new Nextbit Robin smartphone that comes with 32GB of internal memory with another 100GB of Nextbit cloud storage. With Cloud Storage, you will be forced to use either Wi-Fi or your network for accessing your files, so be conscious about your data caps before jumping all in on the Nextbit Robin. The data is ready and willing for recall back to your phone when needed. Their unique “cloud-first” Robin smartphone was put up on Kickstarter where it managed to garner more than a million in funding. The phone’s bands support all four major USA carriers.
The goal of the Robin is to help those storage sticklers, break free from the chains, making it the first Android device that is “powered by the cloud”. Now just because Nextbit is focusing on Cloud Storage for the Robin, that doesn’t mean that there will only be 8GB of onboard storage.
On the photography front, the smartphone features a 13-megapixel rear camera phase detection autofocus and dual-tone flash, and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. In February, the company will begin shipping pre-orders. Shipping costs are listed on the website, and it will cost you $25 to have the phone delivered to the U.S. The website (which you can reach by clicking on the sourcelink) also includes a list of accessories including a Quick Charger ($10). Other specs include Qualcomm’s hexa-core Snapdragon 808, 3GB of RAM, NFC, USB Type-C, a fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, and LTE. The device raised $1,362,343 by the end of its Kickstarter campaign. It will also be available in two color variants – Mint and Midnight.
