Michelle Rodriguez to star in gender swap thriller `Tomboy`
In a bid to make a movie more ridiculous than John Wick, Michelle Rodriguez and Sigourney Weaver will star in a sexual reassignment surgery action thriller from director Walter Hill. Here Hill see’s Wick’s murdered puppy and raises him one penis and testicles.
Rodriguez is to play the hitman while Weaver is the scalpel-wielding doctor when the cameras roll November 9 in Vancouver.
Rodriguez is known for her roles in large casts in the movies like “Fast & Furious” series, “Resident Evil” series and Avatar to name a few.
Sigourney Weaver is already on board to also star in the project, being produced by Said Ben Said (Map to the Stars) and Michel Merkt of SBS. I can not be just the girlfriend. The screenplay will be based on a story by novelist Denis Hamill.
“The problem with Tomboy is that a story about someone who is forcibly operated on is markedly different from one that portrays the life of someone who needs and fights for gender reassigning surgery”. “I just said to myself, look, ‘You’re going to just have to create your own archetype, doesn’t matter if you go broke doing it, ‘” she continued to say.
Though she’s been the “tough girl” type several times, this is the first time Michelle Rodriguez is gender swapping for a starring role.
Initially, Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto was involved in Tomboy, though the actress bowed out of the actioner recently just as it was to do the rounds at TIFF in search of a distributor.
“But you know, it’s a Catch-22”, she continued.
