‘Injured’ Wood to miss third Test against Pak
Karachi, Oct.28: Former cricketer Bazid Khan has said the end of the England series will be the right time for Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul- Haq to retire, adding that the latter has done his bit for the country.
The 28-year-old injured webbing of his bowling hand while catching a ball in training at the Sharjah stadium.
England have confirmed that bowler Mark Wood has been rested for the third and final Test against Pakistan in Sharjah due to an “ongoing ankle condition”.
Team manager Intikhab Alam said Khan was taken to hospital for treatment.
It is a blow for Wood who was England’s best bowler in Dubai.
But the 25 year-old’s workload is a concern for the England management with Wood at a few point facing the prospect of surgery to his ankle and a potentially lengthy lay off.
Wood is likely to be replaced by Yorkshire seamer Liam Plunkett although allrounder Chris Jordan could also be in the picture.
The England coach Trevor Bayliss had also said that they have included Taylor in the team because they believe he plays spin well and can rotate the strike regularly, which would not allow Yasir Shah to target one batsman consecutively. Jonny Bairstow will keep wicket in Butler’s absence. “So we’ve got to sit down and analyse that and make a decision”.
Stokes stressed England had learned the lesson of not giving away good positions in one bad session, like they did in Dubai when they were dismissed for 242 after being well placed at 182-3.
