Dolphins Lose Cameron Wake For Remainder Of 2015
The New England Patriots continued their march through the AFC East Monday night with a 36-7 victory over the Miami Dolphins. They’ve been playing tough with a new coach. But the Patriots have evolved past the “system”, and that should be scary to the rest of the NFL.
[Photo by Darren McCollester/Getty Images]It could be an even bigger loss for the Dolphins because four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake was carted off the field with an Achilles tendon injury. Offensive football, you’ve got to string a bunch of good plays together. He went to court and beat the rap. And it was the Patriots pass rush that harassed Ryan Tannehill all night long, sacking him five times and holding Miami to a single scoring drive.
Seriously, Tom, quit rubbing it in.
– “Dude, he’s married to Gisele”.
The Patriots are looking as strong as they did in that 2007 campaign.
After the brouhaha over deflated footballs, Belichick channeled his disdain for Roger Goodell onto the other 31 teams, who have the misfortune of standing in as the commissioner’s proxies each week.
The amusing thing is that I’m speaking in general trends here, but these different systems of attack can happen not only in entire quarters but play to play. But they were buoyed by two missed pass interference calls on the part of the officials that could have broke this game wide open much earlier.
Can this team do what that team couldn’t? There are a few potential stumbling blocks in the mix. Then when they had Miami loading up for more Blount runs, they lined up in a two-tight end set and play action, but Rob Gronkowski released, ran a slant, slipped one tackle from Reshad Jones (whose heart just wasn’t in it) and went 47 yards for the score.
“It’s all about going back to work”, Campbell said.
– While I’m on special teams, the Dolphins chose to single block Mathew Slater on punts.
The defense showed improvement in an important category this week as well. Through seven weeks of action, Brady has thrown for 2,410 yards and 20 touchdowns with just one interception.
The loss to the Patriots stings enough but losing Wake will cause this defense to struggle to generate any level of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
The very next play he throws a strike to Julian Edelman for his twelfth game with four or more touchdowns.
Week 8 of the NFL season kicked off Thursday night with the New England Patriots again showing that they’re playing at a higher level than most of the league.
Of course, that just gives Belichick something else to hold over his current group. Remember, Tom Brady didn’t win a title for an entire decade. Suddenly, it seemed like Miami just might have a chance against the Patriots.
