Kyler Murray to be Texas A&M’s starting QB on Saturday vs
The Aggies open the season “for real” on November 13 in Reed Arena against USC Upstate, an 8:30 p.m. game on the Friday night before A&M football plays host to Western Carolina in a nonconference contest that Saturday. Murray has also thrown two interceptions and has picked up 92 yards rushing as well.
This seems like the right game for Texas A&M to use a new starting quarterback.
For the second straight year, Texas A&M has decided to make a midseason change at starting quarterback – and for the second straight year, Kevin Sumlin is handing the job over to a freshman.
According to TexAgs.com, numerous sources confirmed coach Kevin Sumlin told the team Murray will start.
Listed at 5-foot-11, 188 pounds, Murray was the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback recruit in the 2015 ESPN 300.
Now, he has an opportunity to turn Texas A&M’s season around, as there is plenty more football left to be played.
At Allen (Texas) High, Murray was 42-0 as a starter and led his team to three consecutive state championships.
Murray will be the Aggies’ third different starting quarterback since the start of the 2014 season.
Sophomore Kyle Allen has started all seven games for this season for the Aggies, who have lost two straight after a 5-2 start. Sumlin appeared to confirm Murray’s absence was disciplinary in nature, saying the freshman had “done the things necessary based on what happened on the sideline” – presumably vs. Alabama – to enter the quarterback competition.
