Canada commuter train hits tow truck near Toronto, one dead
Shamsi said she’d only been on the eastbound train for about 10 minutes before it collided with the tow truck.
Service has been suspended on Go Transit’s Milton line after a fatal collision between a train and a tow truck.
Police said emergency crews were on scene for a minor crash just north of the tracks just prior to the train collision.
Steve Harvey, a GO inspector, said there were “indications” that the tow truck was within the signal area at the time of the impact.
Milton Liner GO train service is only operating between Meadowvale and Union Stations while an investigation is conducted. A friend said he was a married father with more than 30 years’ experience as a tow truck driver.
GO Transit is advising commuters who use the Milton line to seek alternate routes into downtown this morning, including the Lakeshore West line.
It says 172 people were on board the train, which has since been evacuated. “That means it’s going to be even longer getting this train going”, said Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins.
