Colts Preparing For Panthers
Andrew Luck keeps searching for answers to a confounding slump.
He can’t explain the inaccuracy.
If we move past the idea of blaming all of the struggles on an injury, Luck’s regression is baffling. And he can’t seem to find a way out. “I want to get in there and feel like I’m making the play or helping the team out”, Norman said. I will say that if Newton throws the ball 35 times or more, the defense will have slowed the running game down and forced Carolina to become one-dimensional. Luck has six touchdown passes in his last two games.
After a full week of enduring the ignominy of National Football League fans and media everywhere for World’s Worst Attempt at a Fake Punt, the Indianapolis Colts responded…by looking utterly lifeless through the first two-plus quarters of their game against the New Orleans Saints.
Although Luck was expected to turn the ball over a bit as a young quarterback directing a complex offense, the dramatic surge in turnovers over the past season-and-a-half raises questions about his game management skills. Then throw in the fact the Colts are third in the league in penalties and first in holding.
Those inside the complex insist Luck isn’t the only problem.
“I hope people don’t think that”, Luck said Wednesday, via Black and Blue Review. “I also have a lot of respect for Coach Rivera, Coach McDermott, Coach Shula – bunch of good guys”.
On decision to stay at Stanford for senior year: “I think I always just sort of knew that I was going to stay in school for four years”. Without bringing his safeties closer to the line of scrimmage, the Panthers’ offensive line should have its way with the Colts. Pep Hamilton has had Andrew Luck for the past 7 years of his coaching career. The Panthers have allowed the lowest completion percentage on deep passes (15-plus yards) this season and they can get after the QB.
Will T.Y. Hilton or Donte Moncrief produce against a tough Panthers defense this week? Newton has at least one TD pass and at least one TD rush in four of last five games… “We all know that our starting quarterback has done a few great things”.
That’s when teams got smart and began throwing away from him.
Luck might not be the only one pressing. “You see it everywhere”. You see guys doing things outside their technique, outside their assignment.
On Carolina’s defense: “They have a very good defense”. “But if so, if not, just got to be on top of everything and be mindful of certain situations and what they like to do and just try to shoot it down”. Entering 2014, Carolina was coming off a 12-4 season, had a dynamic franchise quarterback drafted No. 1 overall, a popular head coach and a rising team on the cusp of Super Bowl contention. Is it just the AFC South that makes us look good, but we’re not actually that good? “Hopefully that gives our unit a better chance to succeed”.
