Taylor Swift loses to Justin Bieber at EMAs
The pop singer won the award for best male performer, best collaboration and best look – and was also named the best North American act.
“It’s been a long couple of years. I just feel it’s awesome to be recognised for my music”. “I know a lot of people don’t understand that, but I know a few of you do”.
As you can imagine, Directioners were left FUMING on Twitter last night when they found that One Direction had been beaten to the award, and with it came speculation about the whole thing being a fix. You guys are really incredible.
The biggest stars in music took over the Mediolanum Forum in Milian, Italy for the 22nd annual MTV Europe Music Awards.
While we sit here hoping that next year will be better, here is the list of nominations, wins, and losses by our dear Taylor Swift this year at the 2015 EMAs.
This year the trophy went to Italy and to pop singer Marco Mengoni, who won the 2009 round of the TV casting show “X Factor”. Earlier in the evening, he teamed up with British dance act Rudimental to deliver a high-energy, rousing rendition of “Lay It on Me”. But they should slow down now, after the inexplicably enduring pop novelty Jason Derulo utilised them in his performance of (the admittedly very good) Want You to Want Me.
The 28-year-old songstress also showed off her curves with her dress, which has plunging neckline and thigh-high slit. Nothing quite encapsulated the lottery of deciding who gets to give away what more than the appearance of 10-time grand slam-winning tennis champion Novak Djokovic.
The duo, best known for their 2012 gay equality anthem “Same Love”, shot the video for “Downtown” in Spokane, Washington, showing street life as Macklemore shops for a moped and leads a street parade.
Most of the speakers greeted the audience with “Ciao, Milano”, while tennis star Novak Djokovic spoke a few more words of Italian when delivering the Best Hip Hop award. “You can’t make this up”.
Picking up the collaboration prize, Bieber said, “This has been an OK night for me”. There was also the typical mix of cheesy skits and poorly scripted jokes, including a barely audible opening sketch which featured Sheeran and Rose relaxing on a sofa.
Duran Duran received the first MTV video visionary award.
Wrapping things up was Grammy Award victor Pharrell Williams, who got the crowd on its feet performing his track Freedom.
