Dublin Fire Brigade attend bonfire off James Street
Crews from Dublin were back at Basin Street flats this morning, as the flames and heat from the bonfire was threatening the Luas lines.
Three units have been sent to deal with the blaze.
However when the fire was put out and the emergency services left the scene, the youths began to replenish the stockpile with wooden pallets and then set a second fire.
A few locals on the scene said it was the biggest bonfire they had ever seen, while others denied anything was thrown at the Fire Brigade.
Public Order Unit Gardai arrive at the Bonfire at Basin St Flats last night.
Luas said on its website: “Luas Red Line is operating from The Point to Heuston and Blackhorse to Tallaght and Saggart”.
Fire brigades are obliged to intervene in cases where fires are lit near overhead cables, near premises which can be affected by smoke and sparks and even on Astroturf pitches, which are sometimes used for unsanctioned Halloween events.
The incident comes as DFB and Dublin City Council continue to issue safety warnings as Halloween approaches.
A spokesperson from Dublin City Council confirmed that they are responding to many reports of similar bonfires around the city and responding to them.
