Gunman among four killed in Colorado Springs shooting spree
Four people including the suspected gunman have died following a shooting spree in Colorado Springs. Police said the suspect fired at officers and they shot back, hitting the suspect.
When police arrived on the scene, the suspect began shooting. That’s when they saw and eventually shot the armed man near Wendy’s, Kirby said.
The 21-year-old said the shooter made it west of El Paso Street then suddenly turned to his left and fired off more shots. He took her pulse and said he didn’t feel a heartbeat. When police got there, they found a deceased man sprawled on the ground next to an overturned bike.
Ryan White, 24, who is Abshire’s roommate, woke up to the sound of gunfire. Abshire followed the gunman on the street while calling police.
Nicks told KOAA he saw several officers open fire after the suspect spun around and pointed the gun at police.
Nicks said the suspect was darting between fast-food restaurants on Wahsatch as he tried to escape officers. There appears to be no further threat to the community, authorities said.
The investigation has been turned over to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The crime scene investigation covers multiple city blocks, closing streets for between 6 to 10 hours.
The public information officer from the Colorado Springs Police Department is on the way to the scene. You can expect closures on Platte from Corona to Weber; Wahsatch from Kiowa to Boulder and the 200 block of North Prospect.
