Jets reportedly asked National Football League to check locker room before Patriots game
The Jets were the victims of SpyGate in 2007, when the Patriots videotaped defensive play calls from their own sidelines.
The NFL swept the New York Jets’ locker room for bugs prior to Sunday’s Week 7 game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The Herald’s story, which used ominous words like “interrogation” and “unprecedented”, said exactly the opposite. The report said opposing teams have hired outside professionals to electronically sweep their locker rooms out of fear the Patriots were spying on them.
The source told Howe that a stadium operations manager eventually told the league employee to go through the Patriots themselves, but that was after the person took photos of the employees’ badges and asked to look at their radios and cell phones.
By the end of the game, the NFL informed the Patriots that everything was done appropriately and according to league protocol and the Patriots had done nothing wrong. “We do not get into details of specific games”.
Contacted by PFT, the Jets declined comment regarding the situation.
The report comes from Boomer Esiason, the former National Football League quarterback and current CBS “NFL Today” analyst, and Craig Carton of the “Boomer and Carton” morning show on WFAN in New York – yes, the guy that reported that there was “no doubt” Tom Brady would serve a Deflategate suspension this season, So, there is that.
Whee! Isn’t Jets-Patriots fun?
And in September, Sports Illustrated reported that at least five teams have swept their hotels, locker rooms or coaches’ booths in New England for listening devices.
