Arkansas expects to build on OT win against UT-Martin
Arkansas is No. 40 in total offense with 436.7 yards per game and No. 52 in total defense, allowing 372.6 yards per game.
After a marathon, four-overtime victory over Auburn last week, Arkansas looks to keep its momentum going when it welcomes non-conference foe UT Martin to Fayetteville for a homecoming game Saturday.
Even though he’s seen a few progress of late, Smith said, “You have to be your own worst critic”. “We really stress stopping the run, we really stress limiting big plays and we really stress generating takeaways”.
Allen ran three sweeps, his first of the season, for 14 yards, converting on 2 of 3 third-down plays.
Against Auburn last weekend, that wasn’t the case, though. His favorite target is Rod White, another senior who has 42 receptions, 671 yards, and 10 touchdowns already on the year.
The Skinny: After its best season under coach Mike Anderson, Arkansas enters this season devoid of much of its talent from a year ago – though talented freshman guard Jimmy Whitt is expected to step in right away and be a top scoring threat.
If you were looking for life from Arkansas, that was it.
Now, with what should be a cupcake against UT Martin on Saturday, the Razorbacks have a chance to get back to. 500 and hit reset on their season. Arkansas’ victories over Southeast Missouri State came 101 years apart – in 1906 and 2006. Arkansas needs a break after the four-overtime win over Auburn, and with road games ahead against Ole Miss and LSU, this game can’t require any effort.
If the defense can get back on track, the offense has shown that it’s ready to hold up its end of the bargain. Even though they have been decimated by injuries at running back and receiver – “We’ve set a record for broken bones”, Bielema said – they’re finding a way to get it done. Why Arkansas Will Win To be fair, UTM has improved in a big way since the start of the season, but the one game it played against an FBS team was about as ugly as it gets – Ole Miss did whatever it wanted to.
“Every once in a while he’ll share stories, whether it be Coach Holtz or Coach Hatfield and Tim Horton and different guys he played with in that great Arkansas history”, Simpson said of Bond. “It really shows up that the physical presence of what we want to be can be felt in the fourth quarter”. If the Hogs win this game, then they only need 2 more wins to be bowl eligible, with 4 games left on the schedule.
