49ers’ Davis denies reports of two clashes with teammate Staley
Vernon Davis disputed reports that he called out Colin Kaepernick during a players-only meeting last month and insisted he s on the same page with the 49ers quarterback.
A report from Jay Glazer of FOX Sports stated Kaepernick had lost his confidence and was struggling to connect with his team-mates in the locker room. Davis, Staley and Kaepernick cleared the air within the next couple of days, sources told CSNBayArea.com.
“If we do say anything to each other, it’s going to be out of respect and it’s going to be done properly”. Since I don’t follow people around 24/7, I don’t know everything about them. That s amusing to me.
We’re told one of the issues that was raised in the meeting was… a bunch of players felt like Colin had been acting like a “loner” – constantly walking around the team facility with his headphones on, tuning out the rest of the team.
San Francisco managed just 55 yards in the first half and finished with 142, fewer than the 164 the Niners managed in last year’s Thanksgiving night loss to Seattle and their worst total since 133 yards against the Vikings on November 5, 2006. Staley was selected in the first round in 2007.
“He’s been like a brother to me”, Davis said. “We’ve had arguments in the past”. We’re all together. There’s nothing that could separate any of us.
Do I think Vernon is lying? I didn’t call Kap out at all.
“I’ve never been mad at Joe, ever”. Davis missed two games with the injury before returning for a 25-20 win over the Ravens on October 18.
“I didn’t call Kap out”, Davis said. Because you get a chance to get anything off your chest…. It’s not my job or my role to call Kap out. “I let coaches do that”. Davis again denied there was acrimony between them. What was he thinking? “Everyone is together”, Davis said.
Staley was not available for comment.
“It just happens”, Davis said. It is certainly possible neither thing happened.
I am a little bit fascinated by how ugly this dumpster fire can get, but I’ve long since moved past actually believing denials at this point. He was injured in the third quarter of a loss to the Giants on October 11. “He still seems to have a good burst initially”.
Hyde hasn’t practiced this week, but is expected to play Sunday.
