RJ Cyler Cast as the New Blue Power Ranger!
The social media accounts for the new Power Rangers movie from Lionsgate have announced that Becky Gomez (Empire) aka singer Becky G. has been cast in the role of the Yellow Ranger for the upcoming film.
In case you missed it, Ludi Lin will portray the Black Ranger, Naomi Scott will be the Pink Ranger, and Dacre Montgomery will take on the Red Ranger role.
Power Rangers will begin filming in January 2016 and is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017.
In order to save the world, the rangers will have to master their powers in the face of an unspeakable evil. Tommy Oliver is known to have multiple ranger roles in TV series as he started from being the Green Ranger, White Ranger, Red Ranger (twice) and Black Ranger. It features mostly footage from the first Power rangers movie, but it also includes footage of the Orcs from the Lord of the Rings franchise. The last ranger the studio is searching for, we expect we’ll be hearing an announcement about her very soon.
The film has now cast five Power Rangers. In an interview with ComicBook.com, actor Jason David Frank said he’s not sure what he’ll be doing in the film, but he knows he’ll have a cameo “at least”.
However, the list of character names proved that the upcoming movie would go a different path which, as cited by Collider, would be revolving around an “all-new team and not a reboot in any sense”.
Saban’s “Power Rangers” franchise is the brainchild of Haim Saban, creator and producer of the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” hit series that launched in 1993.
