Race for Governor: Dardenne Officially Endorses Edwards
Republican Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne is expected to endorse Democrat state Rep. John Bel Edwards for governor this morning during a press conference on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.
It’s unclear what impact Dardenne’s endorsement might have on Republican voters.
The announcement would be the latest in a string of bad news for the Republican candidate, U.S. Sen.
“Some GOP strategists believe the “very serious sin” that Vitter admitted to is more crippling than Bevin’s personality clashes with party leadership”.
Election day is set for November 21. Polls released earlier this week showed him losing by wide margins against Edwards.
Dardenne said he did his due diligence before announcing his endorsement.
Dardenne garnered 160,000 votes during the first round of elections.
David Vitter in the gubernatorial primary has chosen to endorse Vitter’s Democratic challenger instead of falling into party lines after a vicious primary fight. “I would hope that they would re-engage and get out and vote”.
“I’m sure he’s mad, but he finished last” among the four major candidates, Pinsonat said.
Not just because of the impact it’s going to mean to the race, but because he’s a good man; said Edwards.
Doug Moreau, who served for 18 years as the district attorney in East Baton Rouge Parish, voted for Dardenne, a close friend, but now expects he’ll support Vitter. “Jay Dardenne has a long history as a political conservative”.
