Jets name QB for Sunday
Coach Todd Bowles said he will be anxious if they continue to feel pain into this weekend. He caught nine passes for 108 yards in the game.
“He went through something similar, so we were able to talk and bounce ideas off each other and all that”, Fitzpatrick said. “They were in the 20s”. Bowles and his staff, however, are even tougher graders, with the coach saying their total was “in the 20s”.
“It’s unacceptable”, Bowles later added. “We’ve got to be smarter than that for the good of the team, but you can’t fault the competitiveness”.
Fitzpatrick has played through broken ribs in the past, but this physical discomfort might be a different beast. We know it wasn’t good enough. “There were certain plays where somebody wasn’t going full speed that we addressed”.
“It is one game”.
“We did one-on-ones, receivers and DBs, we did a one-on-one drill with our O-line and D-line”, Bradley said.
Rookie wide receiver Devin Smith also sat out practice with a foot injury. Wynn has yet to appear in an National Football League regular-season game.
Brandon Marshall once again found himself defending teammate and Jets quarterback Geno Smith during an episode of Showtime’s “Inside the NFL” on Tuesday. Fitzpatrick was asked later in his press conference if he’s learned anything now that he’s suffered the first thumb injury of his career. According to ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini, the 32-year-old was wearing a special glove in practice so as to provide additional protection for the injured thumb. The surgery, however, can be put off until the end of the season.
And then all the Jets’ banged-up players will leave it up the doctors, trainers, Bowles, and those associates from the south of France to get them ready to roll against the Jaguars. “We don’t have a lot of guys [at wide receiver], but it’s early”. We have a couple of days to let them heal up. Bortles has big numbers this season (15 touchdowns and an average of 259 passing yards per game) but tends to hang in the pocket and wait a tick too long to try and make the big pass downfield.
NOTES: FB/LB Julian Howsare was released from the Jets’ practice squad on Wednesday. Howsare signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Clarion University following the draft last May and split time during the preseason between linebacker, his natural position, and fullback.
