Lena Dunham Supports Judd Apatow’s Bill Cosby Criticism: ‘Stop Defending The
As Judd Apatow continues to publicly criticize Bill Cosby, he has an ally in Lena Dunham. However, this might be the most awkward celebrity sighting yet. Okay, we’ll rewind on this one.
“It’s a pretty shocking headline: Cosby Show was not a show Lena Dunham engaged with”, Judd Apatow joked at the Film Society of Lincoln Center Summer Talks Monday night in New York City. We’re guessing she didn’t know that Judd Apatow is actually married to actress Leslie Mann. “To me it’s interesting, because Bill Cosby is just a rapist”, she said.
She added that she’d be more interested in hearing from those in the industry who have been silent on the subject so far: “But that being said, I would love to hear all of the people in the industry who’ve stayed quiet and who’ve not wanted to speak until they saw any actual evidence of like purchased quaaludes finally talk about what they’ve been f***ing thinking for the last six months”. Dunham recounted the rest of the story with glee.
“I have people Tweeting at me, ‘When’s Judd going to let it go with the Cosby thing, ‘” Dunham said. So, as Lena recalled it, she looked at her, “and she said, ‘Do you even like men?” Diane Keaton straight-up was just like, ‘Oh, there’s a lesbian, and I’m Diane Keaton, so I don’t even need to beat around the proverbial bush.
“Oh, and in case anyone’s distracted, Judd’s wife lent me her engagement ring”, Dunham clarified to the prying eyes wondering whether it meant she’d be getting hitched to boyfriend Jack Antonoff. Despite not being a lesbian (sorry, Diane Keaton!) Dunham is a very outspoken supporter of LGBT rights.
“I feel like women just not being listened to is what’s scariest”, the director said.
Dunham recently wrote about the ruling, “As soon as Jack woke up, I informed him that he ‘better not make a fool out of me, ‘ followed by a quick ‘LOL, ‘ and then, ‘But seriously”.
We’re lookin’ at you, Diane!
