Mississippi State bowl projections after Week 9
Mississippi State has allowed only 34 tackles for loss all season, tied for 12th in the nation. Under coach Dan Mullen, the Bulldogs are 12-4 versus the Eastern Division. “Everybody wants to play hard and play their best”. Missouri has won both of the previous meetings. The Bulldogs are the only SEC team that hasn’t yielded a touchdown in the final period in 2015.
Skinny: The Bulldogs (6-2, 2-2 SEC) have won three consecutive games and star quarterback Dak Prescott is playing superbly. “It’s going to be a good game”. The official time and network will be unveiled following this Saturday’s slate of games.
In victories against Troy, Louisiana Tech, and Kentucky the Bulldogs have 1,362 yards of offense. Senior quarterback Dak Prescott has recorded 2,048 yards passing so far this season, which ranks second in the SEC. Lock has 763 passing yards, completing just 51 percent of his passes and throwing three touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s also rushed for 371 yards – the most by a Mississippi State player – and seven touchdowns on 72 attempts. “It’s all coming together”.
Missouri hasn’t scored a touchdown since October 3 against South Carolina. Lock has zero touchdown passes in his last three games. He added 117 yards and three TDs on 13 carries. As a starter, Lock has thrown one touchdown. Leonard Fournette will finally see an equal at his position on the field, and each team has had two weeks to prepare for each other. “I think that’s what his focus is, and I think he learns things every day”. By the time they polished off a six-play, 82-yard drive that took just 1:32, they had cut the margin to 21-19 with 4 minutes to play.
“We understand on the board what we’re going to get”, MSU defensive coordinator Manny Diaz said. Since Prescott is a talented and experienced quarterback and the team has several veteran receivers, the coach has gravitated toward the passing plays this fall.
MSU’s last game was one of its best.
Prescott and the Bulldogs will have to get past a Missouri team that has been all defense in 2015. “We picked up right where we left off”. De’Runnya Wilson had a great game as well, adding 91 receiving yards and a TD on four catches. Redshirt freshman Dontavian Lee has 135 yards, and fellow redshirt freshman and former West Point High School standout Aeris Williams has 118 yards, but he leads the running backs with two touchdowns.
Missouri is 2-6 ATS in its last 8 games. With games left against Charlotte and Vanderbilt, United Kingdom can finally get back into the postseason…barring another collapse.
