Student who stabbed 4 at university meant to do more harm
The Merced County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who stabbed four people with a hunting knife in a University of California Merced classroom as an 18-year-old freshman Computer Science major, the university said on its website.
UC Merced, which opened September 5, 2005, is the newest campus in the University of California system and is near Yosemite National Park. Mohammad was shot and killed by pursuing officers on a nearby foot bridge.
Faisal Mohammad is seen in a yearbook picture from Wilcox High School. A bomb squad later destroyed the backpack.
“This morning our dispatch was notified of a stabbing incident inside of a classroom”, said Police Chief Vazquez.
Warnke added that there was scripted dialogue in the manifesto that revealed what Mohammad planned to say to students and to police as his plot unfolded.
The four victims are expected to recover.
Once armed, according to the UC Merced stabbing suspect’s manifesto, he planned to shoot named targets he had listed. “There were a few references to Allah and I wanted to tell everybody as me being a Christian, it would be like me referencing the Lord Jesus”, says Sheriff Warnke.
“I want to emphasize that there’s a lot of rumors swirling out there and what you’re going to get is what we know at this point in time”, said Chancellor Leland.
Price said told the Merced Sun-Star (http://tinyurl.com/p79mf92 ) that it appeared the attacker was having fun. “In the future we will definitely be looking what we know, what we can improve”.
Nine staples in his side and he’s back behind the wheel, driving himself home from the hospital.
Price says he was stabbed but managed to kick the charging attacker, later identified as Mohammad.
The campus, located 130 miles southeast of San Francisco, is scheduled to reopen Thursday afternoon so that faculty and staff can access their offices, except the Classroom and Office Building where the stabbings began, school officials said. Authorities didn’t release their names.
However, the college moved to rule out a political motive on Wednesday.
In the later news conference, Warnke stressed that focusing on Mohammad’s religious beliefs would be unfounded.
Patel said he lost contact with Mohammad after high school graduation in June.
He said: ‘He didn’t talk much.
“I think he prevented this first student from dying”, Warnke said. “Walking to class, I never saw him walk with anybody”, Velasquez said. “Every time I would try and say something, he would just ignore it”.
One student told the student newspaper The Prodigy, that he was rarely ever in his room.
“The threat of a mass shooter on campus on Monday [at Fresno State] and then a knifing on Wednesday at Merced, it’s kind of disheartening more than anything else, that these places can’t be safer than that”, Eissinger said.
‘They did detonate something.
Before this, Warnke said Mohammad was on “nobody’s radar”.
Faisal allegedly stabbed two students, a staffer and a construction worker who rushed to help on Wednesday morning.
