Amazon releases new trailer for Spike Lee’s ‘Chiraq’
The first glimpse into Spike Lee’s film “Chiraq” was revealed to the public Tuesday as the official trailer was released. He took to Twitter on Wednesday with this message: “Spike Lee exploited poor people”.
Based on the trailer, it looks like Spike is going back to his original formula of movie-making, balancing satire with drama. When asked what he’d say to Lee, Rhymefest responded, “You owe Chicago an apology. And you owe Chicago your presence to fix the damage”, he said in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. He is a black filmmaker, and the creator of past films that have in many ways spoken to the political and social ideologies of many black people.
“Chi-Raq” is will be in theaters starting December 4. In the just-released film trailer, there appear to be lots of dramatic moments too.
The film comes with a star-studded cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Dave Chappelle, John Cusak, Angela Bassett and Nick Cannon.
“I said then, and I believe, that’s an important conversation to have”.

This movie is not about a war.
“Chiraq” has been front page national news since it arrived at Cinespace last June to film in Englewood and other South and West Side neighborhoods. That’s not it. It’s senseless violence.
The film trailer’s subject matter, and especially its tone, rubbed a few people the wrong way, who feel that it’s an insult to the city and the communities. Drugs are cheap. Because guns and drugs are cheap senseless violence happens. “Spike Lee is one of the most distinct and visionary filmmakers of our time”. “The guns and drugs get into the hands of children”.
