Mazda to introduce next generation Mazda CX-9 SUV
Japanese automaker Mazda is set to unveil Mazda CX-9 three-row midsize crossover SUV at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
Despite the growing appetite for SUVs and crossovers in Europe, there are now no plans to sell the new Mazda CX-9 here. Now, to keep up with a very competitive segment, Mazda is giving it a full redesign. This is promised through the materializing of a concept dubbed the Mazda RX-Vision that debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show; it is safe to say that this concept is a thing of marvelous beauty.
The sketch reveals the CX-9 has more aggressive exterior appearance than its predecessors and takes a few design cues from the Koeru concept vehicle unveiled at the Frankfurt motor show in September. Right now, the CX-9 available in the USA is based on the CD3 platform and makes do with the 3.7-litre Cyclone V6 petrol engine that is rated at 269bhp and 270lb ft of torque.
With the launch of the next-generation CX-9, Mazda will have finished replacing its entire lineup. The lone teaser shot suggests the CX-9 will adopt a more streamlined look inspired by the company’s KODO design language. Still, expect Mazda reps to be fielding a lot of sports-car questions when the CX-9 debuts in L.A. a couple of weeks from now.
