Parise hurt, Hodgson’s goal lifts Predators over Wild 3-2
Moses, who scored a KHL-record 36 goals last season before signing a one-year contract with Nashville in April, has two goals and three points in seven AHL games. How so? Well, Dubnyk has yielded 10 goals in his last three outings to see his save percentage dip to an unflattering.898. The veteran is arguably the best player on the team and is one reason the franchise can make it out of the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2002-03 season. Roman Josi scored 12 seconds into the third to break the 1-1 deadlock then six minutes later Matt Dumba’s power play goal knotted it all back up again.
An injury to top goal scorer Zach Parise could leave the Wild wanting in terms of offensive production for the foreseeable future. So, cheap, I don’t know. Running around? Yeah. Reckless? Parise limped from the ice, favoring his left leg, and headed down the tunnel with a trainer. Parise initially tried to play through the injury, but went to the locker room towards the end of the first period and did not return. The Wild, in the midst of a three-game homestand, next host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
“There’s no excuses”, Yeo said. “We didn’t come out the way we needed to”, Wild defenseman Ryan Suter said, adding that losing Parise was a tough blow.
Hodgson provided a late boost for Nashville with his first goal of the season.
On the rush, his shot from just inside the blue line was stopped by goalie Devan Dubnyk.
The puck would trickle down Dubnyk’s body and land on the ice where Hodgson followed his shot and tapped the puck into the net giving Nashville the lead for good at 3-2.
“We’ve got a good team here”, he said. Yeah. But I guess that’s part of the game. Callie Jarnkrok left for a short time in the second after a shoulder-to-shoulder hit.
Gaustad unscathed: There was a scary moment about seven minutes into the third period when Predators center Paul Gaustad blocked a Marco Scandella shot with his face. Compared to the best team in Central Division-the Dallas Stars-who have three guys (Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin, and John Klingberg) all with double digits in the assist category.
On the power play, Dumba one-timed a shot from the blue line past Pekka Rinne at 6:51 to tie it.
Washington 4, Boston 1: Goaltender Braden Holtby finally allowed a goal to the Boston Bruins, but Washington capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play with a goal from defenseman John Carlson to propel the Capitals to a victory on Thursday, extending their impressive run against Atlantic Division squads. Center Alex Killorn found Johnson on the inside edge of the right circle with a backhand pass, and Johnson fired a wrist shot to the blocker side at 11:35.
