War of words between Quentin Tarantino, police unions
Following police forces across the country announcing their intention to boycott Quentin Tarantino’s films, the director is speaking out about his involvement in a New York anti-police rally. ‘I have to call the murderers, the murderers’.
The NAPO also asked officers to stop providing security, traffic control or technical advice for any of the film maker’s projects after Tarantino’s remarks at a New York rally against the killings by police of black civilians. “I’m not being intimidated”.
Zuckerman said that he does not regret the incentives given to the movie because they did not go to Tarantino directly, but to a wider cast and crew that spent a few $29 million while filming in Colorado during late 2014 and early 2015. Texas Rep. Ted Poe, a Republican, called Tarantino’s comments “idiotic” and said they “encourage mischief and crimes against peace officers”.
“Anybody who acknowledges that there’s a problem in law enforcement in this country right now is considered by law enforcement part of the problem – whether that be me, whether that be (New York Mayor) Bill de Blasio, whether that be President Barack Obama”, said Tarantino.
“All cops are not murderers”. Frankly, it feels lousy to have a bunch of police mouthpieces call me a cop hater. But you know, that’s their choice to do that to me. “Their message is very clear”. I’m not taking back what I said. It’s to discredit me. Quentin says he never even implied such a thing. “It is to shut my mouth, and even more important than that, it is to send a message out to any other prominent person that might feel the need to join that side of the argument”. “I was proud to stand with those people”.
Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight tells the story of bounty hunters caught in a blizzard in post-Civil War Wyoming, who, while attempting to find shelter, instead find themselves in a plot filled with deception and betrayal.
The film can be seen in cinemas from December 25 in 70mm prints, before expanding to digital theaters on January 8, 2016.
