Crime against women: teen raped in moving minibus near Bengaluru
A 19-year-old nurse was allegedly raped in a moving bus by its driver at Hoskote on the city’s eastern outskirts, police said on Friday. After raping the girl, the driver reportedly dropped her at a local stop.
The attack is alleged to have occurred on Thursday when the woman boarded the bus to commute to her job at a nursing home in Hoskote, 30 kilometres (19 miles) from the city centre. Police sources said that the victim has been admitted to the Government Hospital at Hoskote.
On a complaint, police swung into action and detained both the driver and the cleaner and also seized the bus.
The police said that a case had been registered against the accused under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for rape) and the investigation was on. The bus was registered in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. The bus was privately owned and operated.
However further details are awaited. Ravi then raped the girl while the bus was being driven by Manjunath across the outer Bengaluru roads.
Reacting to the incident, Karnataka Home Minister M Parmeshwar stated applicable motion can be taken towards the accused. Thousands of protesters clashed with the police and battled with Rapid Action Force units. “The doctor informed the police”, the SP said. However none of the accused is convicted till date.
